Hey Salinas Sketchers! With each new sketch that you make, your skills are improving and your confidence is growing in a BIG way! You made it through last week's lesson about overlapping shapes and created fantastic drawings.
We got started by drawing guidelines of geometric shapes, and then erased lines to put a shape in the foreground and another shape in the background. Placing things in front of other things (overlapping) creates depth of space in your drawing. You also made excellent progress in drawing accurate proportions. We'll be learning more about overlapping, space, and proportions in future lessons. Ruby's overlap warm up exercise is shown at left.
We had some highlights last week as Alex M. and Ignacio busted out with lots of cool drawings and really improved their skills. Erik and Tony laid down some excellent lines and shapes in their car and dinosaur drawings. Leydi and Alex P. (a.k.a "AJ") joined the group last week and cranked out some cool sketches too.
>>Are you ready for this week's drawing challenge? This morning you'll be drawing a beautiful bird called an egret. HOT TIP: Notice how the dark background surrounding the egret's body meets the edges of its body. Where the dark areas (negative space) and white areas (positive space) meet to form the edges of the egret, lightly sketch guidelines, and then darker lines to finish. Watch for the 's' curve in its neck. And draw big!
